How to Approach Unjust Laws – Video – Part 1 of 2
G. Stolyarov II
Issue CLXXXI - December 21, 2008
In the first part of this two-part video presentation, Mr. Stolyarov discusses three types of unjust laws: 1) laws which only bring harm on the individual himself and do not require him to hurt other people, 2) laws which require the active infliction of harm on others, and 3) laws which give one the option to inflict harm on others. How should a person seeking to live justly and morally approach these laws? When is it morally acceptable to obey unjust laws, and when is it morally obligatory to violate them? What role does prudence have to play in the matter? Watch this video for Mr. Stolyarov’s answers.
